In an effort to promote the use of $1 coins instead of dollar bills, the US Mint had this television commercial created featuring the Statue of Liberty. It is a short 30 second piece that starts off with an image of Ellis Island without the famous icon. Someone is heard stating "She's gone, She's Just Not There!"

As glimpses of Liberty are seen walking through the streets of New York, a voice-over states:

"They last for decades, are 100% recyclable and using them now could save our country billions of dollars."

Finally, the Statue of Liberty stops in front of a hot dog vendor and hands down a couple of golden dollars to which the voice-over continues:

"The $1 coins... You'll want to get out and do your part too! The $1 coin, it's real change."

The new incarnation of dollar coins was started in 2000 with the introduction of the Sacagawea Dollar. Its obverse featured an image of the legendary Native American who helped guide Lewis and Clark on their journey. The reverse contained an image of an eagle until 2009 when the Native American $1 Coin Act dictated changing designs to commemorate the important part American Indians have played in the development of the United States.

A Presidential $1 coin program augmented the Sacagawea dollars beginning in 2007. These coins honor the former Presidents of the United States in the order in which they served. Four coins are to be issued each year until the program is completed. However, in order to be immortalized on these coins, the former leader must have been deceased for at least two years.

All of these coins are sometimes referred to as 'Golden Dollars', although no gold is contained in them, they are just colored that way.

Unfortunately, most Americans have not accepted the use of dollar coins for everyday transactions and still prefer to use the dollar bill. This is something the government would like to change which explains the commercial.
