US Mint America the Beautiful Quarters Program

This video discusses the US Mint's announcement of a new type of George Washington Quarter dollars coming in 2010. It is called the United States Mint America the Beautiful Quarters Program™. This comes on the heels of two previous quarter types, the United States 50 State Quarters®, which ran from 1999 to 2008, and the District of Columbia and U.S. Territories Quarters Program, that began in 2009.
There will be 56 quarters in the America the Beautiful Quarters Program. All will feature a design depicting a national park or national site on the reverse (tails side) of the coin. One park or site in each of the 50 states, DC, and US territories will be represented.
Each year the mint will produce five new coins, the first being Hot Springs National Park in Arkansas, because it was the first established national site in US history. The other four quarters that will be released in 2010 will depict Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming, Yosemite National Park in California, Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona, and Mount Hood National Forest in Oregon. To learn more about the release dates of the others, please visit America the Beautiful Quarters Release Schedule.
A restored version of the 1932 portrait of George Washington will remain on the obverse (heads side) of each quarter dollar and silver bullion coin.
One unique aspect of the America the Beautiful series is the duplicate United States Mint America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coin™ Program, which will be released at the same time and with the same design as the circulation quarters. The .999 fine silver bullion coins will be quite a bit larger than most US bullion coins. They will be three inches in diameter and weigh five ounces.
