Loading ...This is the second part of a video of the opening of an exhibit for the2009 UHR Double Eagle gold coin at the US Mint's facility in Philadelphia on February 3, 2009. United States Mint Directory Edmund C. Moy continues his short speech about the new coin and then takes a few moments for a special presentation to John Mercanti.
"People when they look at this, they say this can't be based on the original coin," Moy says as he talks about the new Ultra High Relief coin, "This is sharper, this is clearer, the detail is much greater and it's higher. Well, this is originally as intended by St. Gaudens, and we're extremely pleased with that end result."
Moy then explains the exhibit for the UHR, but before ending the program, he asks John Mercanti up to the podium. Moy then presents Mercanti with a new title, promoting him to "Chief Engraver."
This video does a nice job of explaining a bit of the process behind the creation of the new Double Eagle and is well worth the time to watch it (along with the 1st part, of course).
