This 2008 video is worth viewing for its thorough, historical recap of the penny. The format is really a slide show of high quality penny images, after the pictures of Lincoln, and good narration.
The first Lincoln penny was minted in 1909, which makes the Lincoln penny, "the longest, continuously minted American currency in circulation," according to the video. 2009 is also the 200th anniversary of Lincoln's birth, so the mint changed the back of the penny to celebrate and commemorate these milestones. It struck four different backs depicting different stages in Lincoln's life. The designs in the video are perhaps initial drawings, because they were not the final designs that were chosen by the mint.
The mint has changed the penny multiple times throughout history, and fifteen penny images are showcased in the video's 32 total coin images. Many of the images are of rare pennies. The penny images include the 1793 Flowing Hair Chain Large Cent, which was the first American penny made, according to the video. The next images were the 1794 Liberty Cap Large Cent, 1803 Draped Bust Large Cent, 1810 Classic Head Large Cent, 1822 Coronet Large Cent, 1850 Braided Hair Large Cent, 1857 Flying Eagle Cent, and 1864 Indian Head Cent.
The last several images were rare Lincoln Wheat pennies. They included the 1909-S V.D.B Cent, 1914-D Cent, 1922 "Plain" Cent, 1931-S Cent, and the 1955 Double Die Cent.
The video was narrated by Ted Ancher, Sr. and written by Ted Ancher, Jr.
