This is a nice video showing the steps involved in creating a gold coin. It was taken at the private Mayer Mint in Germany, but the processes are similar to those used by mints around the world for coins of gold, silver and other metals.

"Once the design of the coin has been finalized, the first steps of the minting process can begin," the narrator states in the video explaining the steps of minting a coin. "To start with, a plaster mold is engraved by a master sculptor. The mold is much larger than the final die, so that the finest details can be captured on the coin."

Step-by-step, the process is explained and shown in this quality video.

The Mayer Mint has been around for over 100 years and is known for its quality coins and medals. The few minutes it takes to watch this video will definitely increase your understanding of coins and the creation of them.
